BANGALORE: The idiot box is getting smarter amidst the ongoing battle in the Indian DTH market. Airtel's new Digital TV is betting big on interactivity to lure consumers and is offering Infosys digital convergence platform. Airtel sees value-added services like interactivity to drive growth in the fairly nascent DTH market.
ATul Bindal, President, Telemedia Services, Bharti Airtel, said, "We believe that interactivity is really something that will grow. Imgaine you are sitting in from of the TV screen and you want to order for a pizza."
Through this platform, viewers can access local city information, browse the internet, get shopping deals and even travel packages. Infosys, which has provided the devices, application servers and interactive applications for this service, is keen to innovate to offer more features.
SD Shibulal, Chief Operating Officer, Infosys, told, "First of all in this platform we have to innovate cause this is the start of the platform; we have to keep adding features and functionalities and other interactivity in this platform over a period of time in order to focus on it."
Experts say unlike the mobile phone, the television is not so personal and so selling the interactivity concept will be even more difficult. But with all the DTH players looking to innovate their offerings, viewers are certainly spoilt for choice for a smarter television experience. |
