| India domestic flights have become the lifeline of the country in this fast paced world. The recent global meltdown has shown its effects on domestic flights as well. In the past few months, the industry has resorted to increasing airfare so as to cut the losses being incurred due to rising aviation turbine fuel prices. Competition in the airline industry has led to a decline in airfare. Regardless, airfare is still expensive when compared to other modes of transportation. People prefer air travel in spite of its price because of its speed and the comfort it offers to passengers. India's leading private air carrier Jet Airways with other carriers as well are considering airfare hike during the festive season. The rise in airfare, however, has led to passengers shying away from flights and taking alternative means of transportation which inturn add up to the business losses. Although airfare has been rising across most routes, there has been some softening since the last year. Indian domestic carriers are likely to reduce airfare even further for survival. |
