Sensex ends up 551pts, SBI gains 7%

MUMBAI: The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 111 points at 14,609, but dropped to a low of 14,543 in morning deals. With crude oil dropping sharply, the Sensex zoomed to a high of 15,106 - an intra-day swing of over 560 points. The Sensex finally closed with a gain of 551 points (3.80%) at 15,050.

All the sectoral indices closed with gains. The BSE Realty index moved up over 7%. Market breadth was extremely bullish - out of over 2,730 scrips traded, over 1,675 logged gains.

SBI and ICICI Bank gained over 7% each at Rs 1,521 and Rs 713, respectively. DLF also advanced over 7% to Rs 530.

ONGC moved up nearly 7% to Rs 1,101. Reliance Infra, Jaiprakash, Maruti, HDFC and L&T also finished with gains.

Ranbaxy and Tata Motors dropped 2% each to Rs 490 and Rs 430, respectively.

Total market turnover (BSE+NSE) was Rs 79,448 crore. Resurgere was the most active counter on the BSE with a turnover of Rs 929 crore followed by Reliance Capital (Rs 292 crore), Reliance (Rs 218 crore), ICICI Bank (Rs 209 crore) and RNRL (Rs 198 crore).
